What is Muay Thai?

The word muay is derived from the Sanskrit word mavya, which means “to bind together.” Muay Thai is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes—thus utilizing eight points of contact, as opposed to the two points (fists) used in boxing and the four points (hands and feet) used in other more regulated combat sports such as kickboxing, boxing, and savate.

A practitioner of Muay Thai is known as a nak muay. Western practitioners are sometimes called nak muay farang, meaning “foreign boxer.” Muay Thai is Thailand’s national sport and has been practiced in one form or another since the early 1500s throughout Southeast Asia.

In Honor Of The King (2012)

In Honor of The king was one of the largest cultural Muay Thai events ever produced within the United States. This live Pay Per View event aired on both DIRECTV and INDEMAND and raised the bar on international Muay Thai production.

Muay Thai attracts a broad demographic and this 2012 event in honor of the King of Thailand’s Birthday introduced major Hollywood celebrities to “The Art of Eight Limbs” on the highest and most culturally respectful manner.
